ABOUT Dr. SCEMAMA

Dr. Scemama is a Harvard-trained dual board-certified in Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Medicine. He did his residency and fellowship training at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston. While Dr Scemama treats a broad range of chronic pain conditions, his clinical expertise is centered around the use of neuromodulation (spinal cord or peripheral nerve stimulators) to treat chronic pain and around the prevention and management of chronic pain after surgery. His clinical interests also include hard to diagnose an often missed pain conditions as well as the use of coaching techniques to improve his chronic pain patients’ well-being and functionality.

At age 40, Dr. Scemama left his career on Wall Street to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. He was next to the Twin Towers in 1993 when the truck bomb went off below the North Tower. On September 11th, 2001, Dr. Scemama was working at Merrill Lynch in the World Trade Center when the two planes piloted by terrorists smashed into the Towers. Seeing the aftermath of those two horrific events, made him desire to be of more immediate help to people in need. Dr. Scemama began volunteering with the local ambulance squad in Summit, New Jersey.

 "The best thing about being a doctor, is that you always know why you're doing what you're doing: every day you have a patient in front of you and you have to take care of him or her. It is a very special feeling." says Dr. Scemama. 
 

Dr. Scemama is a proud member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiology, the Spine Intervention Society, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Massachusetts Anesthesiology Society, and the American Academy of Pain Medicine. He has authored several well-received publications and book chapters.
